Biology Semester A
alt virtual labs
You were put in a class that does not have virtual labs written into it.
If you complete the labs as they are written, include pictures of what you do in the lab. You can also record yourself doing the lab so Ms. Getz can see what you did. You must turn in the images and the video as files when you turn in your work.
If you need to do the labs virtually, this guide sheet will evolve to include the labs written in a way that can match the answer blanks you see in Courseware.
Guide Sheets:
It also has ideas on how to do some stuff in Courseware.
Make sure you submit documents that can be opened by a PC. I cannot open .pages or .key files. They are Mac files.
Unit 1 Cells
Discussions don't have to be done first
Unit 2: Organ Systems

Unit 3 Course Activity: Genetic Models
If somehow there is not a guide sheet to work with your version of the lab, please let me know. I do not want you to do incomplete dominance or co-dominance because it is too messy, and students are not being diligent enough to write the genotypes correctly. It causes stress for not enough of a positive outcome.
Punnett Squares for codominance and incomplete dominance
The Heredity Activity has been completely reorganized.
Please do not do the one that is in Courseware. Use the Guide Sheet for instructions.

Categories and Weights:
pretest: 0% of your final course grade
Modules (14): 20% of your final course grade
20/14 = 1.42 so this means each Mastery Test is worth 1.42% of your final course grade
Discussion (3): 10% of your final course grade
This means each discussion 10/3 = 3.33% is worth 3.33% of your final course grade
Unit Activity (3): 10% of your final course grade
10/3 = 3.3333 so this means each unit activity is worth 3.333% of your final course grade
Post-Test (3): 20% of your final course grade
This means each post-test 20/3 = 6.67% is worth 6.67% of your final course grade
Course Activity (6): 20% of your final grade
This means 20/6 = 3.33 so each course activity is worth 3.33% of your final course grade
End of Semester Test (EOS): 20 % of your final grade
Students unlock Mastery Tests by redoing the tutorial that goes with it.
Discussions can be redone by adding more to your response. You have to message your teacher so she can regrade it. Course and Unit Activities show up each time they are resubmitted. Discussions can't be formally resubmitted. The teacher has to go into the grade book, find the discussion, read what you wrote, and manually add points.
Post-tests and the End of Semester test can be taken twice and require the teacher to reset them. The reset has to be 24 hours after the completion of the first try.
Academic Integrity- what you should or should not use for answers in discussions or constructed response questions
Students will only earn full credit for assignments if Ms. Getz can tell that independent thought was used. If you trick her into giving you full credit, "yay" for you. It would be best if you still learned how to think for yourself.
I am noticing the same mistakes coming through from wherever people are copying answers. I was nice until I realized the same wrong answers are showing up, so now I am putting out a global warning: if you turn in an assignment that looks closely like someone else’s because you copy and pasted from the same place, you risk being told to put it in your own words and not earn points until you redo the activity in your own words. If you include a citation telling where you are pulling information, I may give you some points if you find good information. Not all of the places where you are finding answers are answers that match our questions. Sure, it looks like they do online, but the experts you are using are not experts. They’re just very nice people who want to help students finish their homework.
I recommend you write your answers outside of Courseware (like in Word or Google docs) and copy and paste your answers into Courseware. Courseware is still closing without warning for some people. If you prefer to make the images or to write your answers in a document and then upload it, you may. If you are linking to a document you save in Courseware, there is a chance I cannot see it. If you are saving the document on your school’s server, I can’t access it. There may be a way to access it, but I don’t know how.
Microsoft’s browser, Edge, does not copy the URL when you try to copy it. It will give you the page name instead of the URL. When you paste this into courseware, the URL gets lost. If you can use Chrome or Firefox to grab the URL, please do.
