Biology Semester B

Biology Semester B

Guide Sheets:

It also has ideas on how to do some stuff in Courseware.

Make sure you submit documents that can be opened by a PC.  I cannot open .pages or .key files. They are Mac files.

Unit 1: Organization of Organisms

Unit 1 discussion: Organization of Organisms

Discussions don't have to be done first

Unit 1: Course Activity: Classifying Organisms

Classifying Organisms has been turned into a virtual lab. If the virtual lab does not match what is in your class, please let Ms Getz know. Also tell her the name of your course so she can find it and see how it needs to be changed. There is more than one version of Semester B in courseware.

AG and NCAA students need to use the images because we don't have specimens for you to take out of jars. This will take you to the set of slides with instructions.  This link will take you to the guide sheet for the activity.

Unit 1: Unit Activity:   Organization of Organisms

Organization of Organisms information is in Courseware for some students. These are fossil images to be used to answer questions in the lab.

The AG and NCAA version is identical. Use the guide sheet that is linked here

Unit 2: Evolution

Unit 2 Discussion: Evolution discussion

Discussions don't have to be done first

Unit 2: Course Activity:  Adaptations in a Changing Environment-

The AG and NCAA course version is identical. Use the same guide sheet.

For the paper, attach a document to your submission before you submit it for a grade. A couple students are thinking outside the box and they pasted their essay into the sections students write notes to me. As long as you meet all of the requirements, I am fine with reading your paper there.

The AG and NCAA course version is identical. Use the same guide sheet.

Article about Wooly Mammoths - please do not use this article for your discussion.  I am enjoying the thoughts I’ve been reading and I don’t want them to become clones of the article. The article, though, points out some stuff I did not know yet and I figured since I enjoyed learning about it, you might, too.

The AG and NCAA course version is identical. Use the same guide sheet.

Unit 4: The Interdependence

of Ecosystems

Discussions don't have to be done first

Unit 4: Course Activity:   Competition in Aquatic Ecosystems

- this involves using the Internet to gather information. A guide sheet has been started. Please visit it- there is at least one idea about how you can organize your information. More links will be added as time allows.

The AG and NCAA course version is identical. Use the same guide sheet.

Unit 4: Course Activity: Solving a Biodiversity Problem

The AG and NCAA course version is identical. Use the same guide sheet.

Categories and Weights:

pretest: 0% of your final course grade

Modules (14): 20% of your final course grade

20/14 = 1.42 so this means each Mastery Test is worth 1.42% of your final course grade

Discussion (4): 10% of your final course grade

This means each discussion 10/4 = 2.5% so this means each discussion is worth 2.5% of your final course grade

Unit Activity (4): 10% of your final course grade

10/4 = 2.5 so this means each unit activity is worth 2.5% of your final course grade

Post-Test (4): 20% of your final course grade

This means each post-test 20/4 = 5% so this means each post-test is worth 5% of your final course grade

Course Activity (6): 20% of your final grade

This means 20/6 = 3.33 so each course activity is worth 3.33% of your final course grade

End of Semester Test (EOS): 20 % of your final grade

Students unlock Mastery Tests by redoing the tutorial that goes with it.

Discussions can be redone by adding more to your response. You have to message your teacher so she can regrade it. Course and Unit Activities show up each time they are resubmitted. Discussions can't be formally resubmitted. The teacher has to go into the grade book, find the discussion, read what you wrote, and manually add points.

Post-tests and the End of Semester test can be taken twice and require the teacher to reset them. The reset has to be 24 hours after completion of the first try.

Academic Integrity- what you should or should not use for answers in discussions or constructed response questions

Students will only earn full credit for assignments if Ms. Getz can tell that independent thought was used. If you trick her into giving you full credit, "yay" for you. It would be best if you still learned how to think for yourself.

CRISPR:

I don’t know yet if our curriculum covers CRISPR. This is the latest and greatest method for genetic engineering. The 2020 Nobel prize in Chemistry went to two of the scientists who worked on the technique.
